I know an 82 year old man that can run! And he went sky diving to raise money for the local pub! My Grandad is the same age and he can get around and just about look after himself but he no-way near as energetic. As far as I know neither have had an especially energetic life. Based on this and looking at past questions on Yahoo I can tell that genetics defiantly play a part. On the other hand I know a 70 year old man that used to be a p.e teacher, he still goes jogging and is still fit enough to work. This man is the same age as my other Grandad and is much more energetic. So my question is- Which plays the biggest part in how able you will become when Your older, diet and fitness or genetics? Do you know any old people that can back up your answer. If genetics is your answer would you still say that exercise is important to be able enough when you get older? I want to be as able as possible when I get older.

I got to say all of them. Genetics are important but if you Arent fit and don’t have a good diet its pointless.
its great living to 100 years old but if I cant walk across the room without stopping for air whats the point?
I’d like to think the mall walkers have the best idea..get out in public, exercise and have coffee in the food court with your friends.

THink of genetics as basically just a shove for a headstart. Good genes play a role, but you can also “condition” yourself with/without the genes. You ever notice how black people always/usually have good muscle tone? That’s in a major part genetic BUT it was bred into them over many years of “working” family members who were “conditioned” for it. Think slavery. So, it’s BOTH

It would definately be in diet and exercise! If you don’t work your muscles and keep the unhealthy fats off your organs your decrease your life span.
You may have inherited genes that make you skinny your whole life and you can eat whatever you want without gaining weight but there is still going to be unhealthy things going into your body.
Remember it isn’t what your outsides look like, it’s the insides that factor in Age and life expectancy. Heck, beautiful people die every day.
