I’m not in the best of shape, and my wife expects me to sign up for a 401 K. Shouldn’t I buy a treadmill and train first? She is very adamant about this and I don’t want to make her upset. What should I do? How does one train to run that far????

Get a new wife. She only wants you to sign up so she can kill you off and take your money. typical.

a 401K is a retirement account not a race. put in the maximum amount you can.

a 401k is an investment vehicle. a 4k might be a run. a treadmill would be a good start. i wouldn,t buy one. join a gym. much cheaper, as most purchased equipment never gets used. start slow, with fast walking.

Don’t upset her, just say that you’d like to do it. Ask her tips and train with her…It might be good for your relationship as well as for your health. In order to train, you have to run everyday, and work out at the gym so you can prepare your body for the strength and endurance that the 401k will need.
-Good luck

You definatly have to train first. The people you’ll be running against will have probably have trained for months.
Just focus on getting fit, maybe even join a gym, or start with a daily walk or jog around the block.
But remember, you don’t have to run these things. You could always just walk it and finish it with a jog, or start with a jog, or just power walk the whole thing. I doubt the majority will be sprinting the whole way anyway.
Maybe ask your wife to sign up with you, and if you have kids sign them up as well. It would be a great way to get your family active together and a great way to bond over a similar goal.
I hope this helps and that you ENJOY your marathon =)
