Is eating pasta/ carbs okay for my diet? 2 SEPARATE QUESTIONS?

okay I am 17 and I am 5′7″ and I weigh 195lbs. I’ve been going to the gym everyday like 5x to 6x a week and doing alot of cardio(jogging), abe crunches, and leg exercises. I was wondering if eating pasta once a week or once in a while will hamper my weight loss goals. I don’t drink or eat soda, juice, candy or any surgary foods or drinks. I only drink water and if I have a sweet tooth I chew sugarless gum or eat an apple. So I was wondering if by eating pasta will it hamper my weight loss badly? Cause I want to lose ALOT of weight. AND MY 2ND QUESTION IS i WANT TO BE 150LBS BY NEXT YEAR JUNE IS THAT POSSIBLE?
Also with the workout routine I just mentioned will that give me results?

      If you stick to it, you’ll loose the weight and be where you want.

      Pasta isn’t all that bad for you. Now, if you’re having it every night and loading up on the carbs… then yes… it can hurt your progress.

      For your cardio, do you do the elliptical? Or treadmill? I like the elliptical because its not only your cardio, but it strengthens your arms and legs too.

      yes you will see results. Carbs once a month or once every so often wont hurt just watch how many you eat. i cut carbs out of my diet and lost 20 pounds if you cut out carbs you will loose weight but if you start eating them the weight will come back you have to make a lifestyle change. good luck

      Yes, you could easily lose 45 pounds by next june. Going to the gym 5 times a week should certainly be effective. Regarding the pasta, it depends on what sort of diet you’re following. Low carb? Then no, you should avoid pasta. However, I’ve know people who followed low carb diets and had a cheat day, and still lost plenty of weight. If you’re following a healthy, low calorie low fat diet, then pasta should be fine. Assuming it isn’t smothered in cheese and alfredo sauce ;)

      anything you eat is ok in moderation. Its all about calories in and calories out. You have to be sure your burning as many calories that you are putting into yourself. That doesnt mean to eat all bad foods and exercise until it hurts, but in moderation carbs wont hurt your diet, but i would suggest you do a little extra on days you know you ate too many calories. I would also suggest calorie counting so you know exactly what your eating everyday and keep your calories at 1400 to 1600 a day.

      You can expect to loose about 2 pounds per week for a sale loss and stay healthy. The following is a good food plan to be healthy. Your pasta is OK in moderation and just before a heavy workout. It is a fast carb and your body will break it down quickly, so use it up or it will get stored. Eat the apple but leave of the gun. Artificial sweeteners actually stimulate your appetite and can cause weight gain because of the chemical reactions in your body.

      •It is important to maintain a good diet so you don’t compromise your health. Damage done because of lack of nutrition is not worth a nice body. Some diet damage cannot be fixed.

      •When you deprive your brain,(your brain craves sugar) the brain will take other body cells to convert to the elements that it needs. And the cells it takes are BRAIN cells. OOPS. I don’t want to lose brain cells to have thin legs. But I would like to have both.

      DECIDE TO MAKE A LIFE CHANGE TO A HEALTHY LIFE STYLE.

      1) fruits and veggies, all you want, organic, raw, vine-ripe if possible. Steamed is OK, sautéed is OK even canned or frozen is OK, but lots of them.
      2) limited or no meat. Read Dr. Campbell’s book “the China Study”
      3) nothing fried-saute with some olive oil, extra virgin(from first pressing)
      4) no FAST FOOD- is junk, no nutrition, empty calories
      5) NO PROCESSED FOOD. if you can’t pronounce it don’t eat it.
      6) nothing white, salt, sugar, mayo, milk, (or at least in moderation.
      7) NO DAIRY-dairy is great for baby cows, your body does not even digest it properly. And is loaded with pus and bacteria check out http://www.notmilk.com
      8) EXERCISE- and be sure to refresh your body with water and fresh fruit
      9) NO PROTEIN SUPPLEMENTS. Muscle is made from water, replace the water. You get enough protein from the food you eat, You get more protein from spinach than the supplements you take and your body does not get toxic on food protein the way it will with supplements. Supplements can really tax you liver.
      10) Good supplement would be Omega 3, and Juice Plus+

      11) NO CARBONATED DRINKS, or at least limited. They actually dissolve the calcium in your bones.
      12) Calories in calories out.

      AND DON’T GO NUTS, MODERATION.

      You didn’t have to stop eating pasta or any of your favorite foods. I think certain foods have simply been demonized for reasons best known to the demonizers. Many people make a religion out of “those are bad, these are good”. It’s a farce. The principle is to eat in proportion to the degree of importance of a food group. Pasta has fattening ingredients, but will only fatten you if you eat too much too often. Enjoy a nice portion of pasta once a week. Just make sure you don’t eat it, or any full meal, within 2 hours of bedtime. If you slip up and eat late in the night, try to keep active for the next 2 hours before sleep, take a walk or do something with a lot of physical movement. You gain weight mostly during sleep.

      It’s good that you’re not rushing to lose weight in a hurry. Losing 10 pounds a month is easy, so in 3 months you should look great (you probably look great right now!), and you should reach your goal in 5 months. One thing though, you did not mention jogging, walking or skipping. If you’re not doing one of these, then you’re not breaking enough sweat, not getting enough warm-up and will not lose weight as fast as if you’re doing these. I think the selection of exercises you mentioned is good, but you MUST do adequate warm-up. Best wishes.
