Toning muscles isn’t just about what you should be eating, but also when you are eating and how often. To maximize your efforts in the gym, you should be eating about 5-6 times a day, each meal should have a good balance of protein, carbs and fat (the good kind) to help give you energy and repair your muscles after a workout. Eating 2 hours before a work out and within an hour after a workout is a great way to provide your body with the nutrients you’ve lost through exercise. One of the best ways to ensure you are getting enough is the use of supplements. And no I don’t mean Acai berry and Hydroxycut and all that crap. Whey protein supplements that absorb into your system quickly are fantastic for an after workout snack. There are a lot of supplements specifically for women and for a variety of goals (whether its weight loss, building muscle mass, or endurance) After a work out is when nutrition really counts, your muscles are weak and susceptible to whatever you put into your body. By packing in the protein (whether its a supplement or a few eggs, lean meats, even some yogurt) you can ensure that you will come back the next day stronger and feeling great. Stay positive and motivated! Good luck!
