In preparation for this lab, we planted mustard seeds of known genotype at the body color locus; the genotype of each seed produces a plant of either a standard green body color or a yellow-green body color. The yellow-green plants are homozygous recessive at the body-color locus. The central question we want you to answer is this: Does genotype at the body color locus influence a plant's expected survival and reproduction? If so, then alleles causing the yellow-green phenotype are likely to change in frequency from generation to generation due to natural selection.
