Try yoga?
helps to tone your body. It’s really good.

This might sound silly but you can both prevent and ease them by doing the following:
- walk around on the balls of you feet and count to 50-100 (don’t touch your heels to the ground)
- walk around in you heals and count to about 50 (or as long as you can stand it and don’t let your toes hit the ground)
If you experiencing pain do these until the pain resides. If you’re about to exercise, do these beforehand and it will prevent shin splints from occurring - think of it like stretching other parts of your body before exercising.
Hope that helps.

swim or bike.
With shin splints the best thing you can do is rest and stretch the calf muscles - that often eases them. After walking or running and they ae painful try an noninflammatory pain killer as well to ease the pain. Massaging the shin area can also help

I would highly recommend weight training, notably circuit training, which gets the heart rate up while helping you to build muscle. Focus on quad and hamstring extensions to keep those shins from hurting. As for upper body, push yourself! For cardio (which should be performed AFTER weight training when possible) consider using an excercise bike with a seat that leans back to reduce pressure on the front of your legs.
