How do I have my mouse use his exercise wheel?

I bought my pet mouse a little exercise wheel a month ago and put it in his cage. He just ignores it. I tried putting him on it and he just crawled all over it, basically doing everything except using it correctly. What can I do to get him to use it? He’s getting really fat, and when I put him in the roll-around-on-the-floor-ball, he walks a few paces and stops, so he isn’t really exercising that way either. Help please D:

either they aren’t the correct sizes for him, or he’s just not used to it. I would give it a bit longer. If he continues in the next 2 weeks, I wouldn’t continue because it may be too much for him. I don’t do that for my mouse because they can have back injuries. Most of the time, they aren’t flexible enough, and running around can hurt their legs or backs.

Well you CAN give him a bit longer to get used to it. Otherwise, if you can, you could try getting him a buddy and he can teach your mouse. put food on it and he’ll go on it more. Once he goes on it more he’ll possibly start learning to use it. Or, put a little ab of peanut butter so he HAS to move the wheel to get to it. Soon he’ll learn to run on it. Good Luck!

put him on your floor with the door shut and play with him and let him go crazy. that should be exercise enough. pretend your hand is a rat and scratch a bit and then make your hand “run away” and have him chase your hand and stuff.

First dont worry to much. Also how old is your mouse? The reason I ask this is , my mouse was to young when I bought his wheel for him. When he was ready he jumped in, started running and hasn’t stopped.
If you have the right wheel your mouse wont break it’s leg. I have a plastic in closed wheel. The reason a leg gets broke is because in the wire ones their legs fall into the holes while their spinning. Because he’s not doing much, that may be a sign of loneliness. Before you get a friend read the sight I gave you and it will answer and help you a lot. My mice are also getting chubby. Winter is around the corner and like any other animal they will put on weight. If his weight is getting out of control you may want to put him on a diet. I really do think he’ll be ok. The sight I gave you will help you. They have a lot of answers, even a diet for your friend. Good luck
