I started doing this exercise video which has some situps, crunches, and push-ups. It always says that I should “tighten my abs”..and “breathe..” I’m a bit of a beginner so I just tightened the, uh, “top” part of my belly(I’m not even sure if that’s where the abs are, but I’m pretty sure it doesn’t mean I have to suck in my whole tummy) and breathed the way I normally do.

I’ve been doing the video for five days already and I’ve noticed that the part I tighten is a bit painful, especially when I, well, tighten it - or sometimes, when I bend my upper body downwards(e.g. to reach my toes or something). Am I doing something wrong, or is this normal? Should I stop doing the video or what? Thanks.

I get that pain sometimes.. but thats cause i crouch over too much… and not enough execrcise can lead too stomach or upper stomach pains.
It will go away. Im not sure how too stop the pain though….

totally normal.Unless youve strained something.(then it would really hurt and be cramped)

If it hurts your doing it right…in saying that though, just take it easy as you start.

Do excersize for 3 times a week max for the first 6 weeks then increase to four times a week.If you feel like doing more do some cardio… go for a run and do some 30 second sprints.Great for the abs and legs, and makes for a break up of excersize routine.(which by the way the body needs)

Pressups can be done twice a day if you like, can be a nice change from nailing those abs.

It is best to tension your abs when working them out but its good to get a feel for how your body takes excersize too.

      Good luck and keep going.

Your fine. It means the muscles you where working out are getting a work out, becoming stronger and tighter, and hurt. I would not work out so hard, for risk of hurting your self further. Also, don’t drink anything an hour before you work out, to a half an hour after you work out, or else it will make it hurt as well. AND FOR GODS SAKES TAKE A BUBBLE BATH
