Has anyone cancelled a fitness first membership within the contract period?

I am only half way through, but can no longer afford it and the gym won't let me cancel. The only option I can think of is to cancel my credit card. Has anyone done this?
Apparently you need documentation proving change of address, so it looks like cancelling credit card is the only option. Has anyone done this? Did they still chase you?

      Say that you are moving to another state and that gym isn't available where you are going. Do your research first. A few of my friends had to do this and it worked. Although, I do not know who your membership is with. I wish you well. I can be done….
