competition with a pulled neck muscle?!?

February 20th, 2009 · 5 Comments

tomorrow i leave for a synchronized skating competition. yesterday, i pulled a neck muscle, this morning, it took me 20 minutes to get out of bed because i couldn't support my neck. I am really scared. I'm only 13, and I would hate to have permanent problems. My shoulders are now uneven. My skating team already doesn't have too many girls, and I don't want to let them down by not skating. But my health is also very important to me,
Any ways to make me recover by tomorrow? Do you think I should skate? Thanks so much in advance

Spend all day today just heating it with a heating pad and stretching it, but not too much, just until the point it hurts. Massage it too. I think you should skate even if you have to keep your mouth clenched the whole time because it hurts. I just pulled my neck muscle too and by the second day it still hurts but i think you can survive the few minutes you will be on the ice.

Ir it took you THAT long to get out of bed then… no.
If you can't support your neck then you certenly can't skate!

      I hope this helps! <3

make a docors apointment & they will tell you if you should skate because if you dont go then your neck may hurt for a long time & you might have to miss alot of skating missing one compition isnt as bad as not being able to skate or even move so go to the doctor & get fixed up!

Do what you think is best for you. I personally do not think you would be letting your team down if you do not compete. You are injured and you can make it worse. (Not trying to stress you out). If on competition day you feel like you can compete then go for it. If you can not compete then tell your coach.
Here are some things to try and help:
      1) Heat for 5 minutes then ice for 5 minutes and do that for a few times
      2) Do not stress about it. The more you think about the pain the more you will feel it.
      3) Relax!
      4) Advil / other painkillers
      GOOD LUCK =)
