Bodybuilding beginner, bulk and cut?

May 23rd, 2008 · 2 Comments

I'm 19, 5'11 and 150lb. I'm pretty skinny. Should I start bulking then cut? At what weight should I stop bulking?

Is this correct about calories/protein intake? 18-20 times your bodyweight in calories and 1.5-2g of protein per lbs of bodyweight.

better to bulk and train at same time

it really depends on how much you train

it really depends on your level of body fat. as insulin sensitivity decreases in the muscle cell the body fat % gets higher and higher. this means that less nutrients get shuttled into muscle cells and more into fat cells. this is why once the body fat % gets past a certain point it easier and easier to get fatter and fatter. for those that train natural I recommend bulking until body fat gets to be about 15-16% then cut down to 10% and repeat the process.

BW x 18 or 20 cals will work. your macros should be close to 30% protein, 50% carbs and 20% fats. consuming mainly low GI carbs will reduce the amount of body fat gained when bulking. increase your cals by 10% each week until weight gain occurs, then monitor your body fat % bi-weekly after that to make adjustments to your diet as needed.
